Dr. Ashok Rao
Dr. Ashok Rao is the Vice President for Technology Development and Innovation at O3b Networks where he is responsible for R&D and Innovation. In this position, he is involved in developing concepts for new ground and space technologies with partners from Industry, Inter-Governmental Agencies and Universities. Prior to assuming this role at O3b, Ashok was responsible for Product Management and Development at O3b Networks.
Ashok has worked in the satellite industry for more than 27 years with stints at leading satellite companies such as Hughes Network Systems, Lightsquared, Stratos Global (acquired by Inmarsat), and Comsat Labs (acquired by Viasat). At Lightsquared, he was involved in the development of the world’s first combined LTE and Mobile Satellite Network with technology developed by Qualcomm and Alcatel Lucent. He has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and a Bachelors of Technology (Electrical Engineering) from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi India. He holds seven patents in the fields of video processing, satellite networking and IP multicast and has authored or co-authored more than 20 journal and conference publications.
